Here's a traditional recipe of Tamil Nadu, VEN PONGAL ..
it's very simple to prepare..
Preparation time: 10 mins
Cooking time: 15 mins
Serves: 2
Ingredients:
Raw rice (Pacharisi) - 100 gms
Moong dal (Paasi paruppu) - 50 gms
Salt - as required
Ghee - 1 tsp
Tempering:
Ghee - 1 tsp
Oil - 1/2 tsp
Whole black pepper - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Cashews - 5
Curry leaves - a string
Method:
1. Start by roasting moong dal and raw rice ..no need of over frying ..mild heat is enough ..

2. Add in 1 tsp of ghee and transfer it to a pressure cooker ..Add in 3 cups of water ..

3. Add in the require salt ..Pressure cook it for 5-6 whistles..

6. Once the pressure leaves, mash it ..Then in a mortal & pestle add in whole pepper and crush it ..(this is optional ..you can use it as a whole too)

8. In a separate tadka pan, heat a tsp oil, add in the crushed pepper, cumin seeds and curry leaves ..Saute it ..Pour it over the ven pongal.. Again, heat a tsp of ghee in that pan, add in cashews ..Once they turn brown, pour it over the ven pongal ..


Your tasty VEN PONGAL is ready to serve .. :) Serve hot with coconut chutney, sambar and crispy ulundhu vada (Click here for the recipe) :)
