Am here with a very simple basic rasam recipe ..
No addition of tamarind or lots of ingredients .. here we go with it .. :)
Preparation time: 5 mins
Cooking time: 10 mins
Serves: 2
Ingredients:
To puree -
Tomato - 1 large (roughly chopped)
Garlic - 3 cloves
Pepper corns / mizhagu - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds / jeerakam- 1 tsp
Salt - as required
To temper:
Gingelly oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds/jeerakam- 1 pinch
Fenugreek seeds/vendhayam - 1 tsp
Hing/Perungaayam - 1 tsp
Dry red chilli - 1
Curry leaves - 1 string
Coriander leaves (for garnishing)
Method:
1. Puree tomato, garlic cloves, pepper corns, cumin seeds & salt into a smooth paste by adding water little by little ..
2. In a kadai, heat gingelly oil, splutter mustard seeds, add in other tempering ingredients except coriander leaves..
3. Add in the ground paste and small amount of water ..
4. Simmer and cook till froths are formed ..no need to overcook rasam ..too much boiling of rasam spoils the taste ..
5. Switch off the flame, add in coriander leaves ..including its stem ..
5. Serve hot with rice .. :)
